#LUPOLIOHistory of Lupolio

At the beginning of the twentieth century my great-grandfather decided to buy the land that today is the seat of our olive grove. Over time they have hosted other crops such as almond groves and vineyards.

About a century later I decided, together with my father, to add other trees to the olive trees planted in the first half of the last century by my grandfather.

Today the older olive trees together with the new plants raised with love and dedication form a single and large specialized olive grove that gives us the olives from which we obtain our high-quality oil.

“Chi ara l’oliveto domanda il frutto, chi lo concima lo invoca, ma chi lo pota lo costringe a produrlo” Columella, De Re Rustica

#LUPOLIOThe territory

The olive grove is located at the southern entrance of Cava d'Ispica in the territory of the municipality of Ispica in the extreme tip of south-eastern Sicily.

Our olive grove is located in the heart of the Sicilian Baroque itinerary a few kilometers from the most important towns Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Scicli.

The typically Mediterranean climate of our area favors the development of vigorous olive trees which give us fruits with unique organoleptic qualities.

#LUPOLIOGood practices

The tree and fruit must be kept in good health.
Lupolio

At the time of harvesting, the drupe must be perfectly intact; we check the olive grove every day to be able to promptly intervene if there is a problem.

The ripening of the fruits is an important factor in obtaining a high-quality oil. You need to know your trees well in order to decide when it’s time to harvest.

The milling of the olives always takes place on the very harvesting day. This strategy helps keep all the superior qualities contained in the fruit intact, and consequently transferred to our oil.

Proper storage is needed to maintain the best organoleptic qualities of our oil over time.

The skilful mixing of the oils of different cultivars serves to create a balanced oil with unique characteristics.
